Questions
What is Annotiv?
Annotiv is a free browser extension for Chrome and Firefox that lets you leave a note on any web page and shows it again when you return. Notes live in a side panel beside the page, and there is nothing to file.
How is Annotiv different from a bookmark or a notes app?
A bookmark saves a link. Annotiv saves what you thought about the page and attaches it to that page automatically, so it appears when you come back. A general notes app asks you to name and file each note; Annotiv files it by page for you.
Where are my notes stored?
In your browser's extension storage. If browser sync is on, your browser syncs them across your own devices through your own account. Very long notes, or notes beyond the sync space, stay on the device and are marked that way.
Does Annotiv work offline?
Yes. Notes are stored in your browser, so you can read and write them without a connection. Syncing between devices and Pro licence checks need a connection, and if a licence check cannot run, Pro stays on for up to 7 days.
What happens at 50 notes on Free?
You can keep reading, searching and editing every note you have. Creating note 51 asks you to try Pro. Nothing is locked or deleted.
How much does Pro cost?
Pro is about $3 a month or $24 a year, with a free 7-day trial. It adds unlimited notes, path rules, tags and filters, notes on PDF files, a list of every open to-do, and export and import of all notes.
Does Annotiv read the pages I visit?
No. It reads the address, title and icon of the active tab, only to find the right notes and choose a tint. It never reads page content.
Do I need an account?
No. There is no sign-up. Paid plans are handled by ExtensionPay and Stripe, and Annotiv never sees your card.
Is my data used for AI training, analytics or ads?
No. Annotiv has no analytics, no advertising, and no server that receives your notes, so there is nothing to sell or train on.
Which browsers does Annotiv work in?
Chrome 116 and later, using the side panel, and Firefox 128 and later, using the sidebar.
Can I get my notes out?
Yes. Export any single note as Markdown on Free. Pro exports everything as Markdown or a lossless JSON backup, and imports it again.
